Code Signing Certificates
When one of your users downloads any software or app you have released they will be presented with an Untrusted Source Error if the code has not been signed. This is why you need to sign your code with a Code Signing Certificate from a Trusted Authority.
Sign your app/file extensions with this high-encryption technology so that the Certificate Authority immediately identifies you as a trusted author and source. The Code Signing certificate will also notify the user if the code has been modified in any way, giving your users utmost trust in what they download.
The Code Signing Certificates available via SSLTrust are widely used in the industry by some of the biggest code providers in the world. Java, Microsoft, Adobe, and Apple are just some enterprise-grade users that subscribe to these Certificates. They use the very same encryption tools that we offer to you.
Our range of certificates is fully compatible with a huge number of code platforms. Microsoft Windows 10, 32 and 64-bit EXE files, OCX, MSI, CAB, DLL, and kernel-level software, Adobe AIR applications, JAVA applets, Mozilla, Microsoft Office, Apple Mac software, Silverlight applications, or XAF files. The list goes on.

How do Code Signing Certificates work?
Any given certificate binds a user's identity to a public key, which can then mathematically be associated with a specific private key. This is the basis for Public Key Infrastructure (PKI): in this particular case, the verified user signs code using their private key. Anybody who attempts to download signed code afterward will use the identity-affirming public key to check for potential tampering.
Therefore, Code Signing SSL certificates protect all involved parties by providing a special digital signature which verifies their identities and issues an assurance or a warning, depending on whether something is amiss. This principle is applied by certificates code signing software that is available for download from the Internet. All thanks to PKI.
Where does Signed Code Security come into play?
Applicable downloads can be comprised of drivers, system updates, 32-bit OS applications, or a simple file collection, for example. If there's no certificate in place to digitally sign said downloads, then the user gets a security warning when opening the downloaded software.
When a CA applies a digital signature to code attached to your identity (i.e. published on your protected website), it records a special timestamp. This timestamp signifies that the certificate used could confirm the code's validity at that moment in time. Whenever someone makes a change to the code to, say, improve hardware support, add management features, or introduce extra security solutions, the signature needs to be re-applied.
Why are Code Signing Certificates so Important?
Signing code is absolutely crucial when it comes to company trustworthiness. Both in the private and business spheres, depending on your code's purpose. Security is key if you want your website and/or service to persevere online, and any extra level of authenticity and trustworthiness you can add to your products is a must-have.
Since modern web security solutions rely so heavily on PKI, ensuring the source and integrity of downloaded content requires no outside support, once a certificate is in place. Maximum security with a minimum of management needed.

The process includes all manner of reputation lookup, so that the CA can make a reliable identity assurance when all is said and done. This is a costly process, of course.
Getting a Certificate Authority to digitally sign your code is no small feat. While the system has been significantly streamlined over the years, it still requires a lot of groundwork before a CA can verify your code. This is done to protect both you and your customers, too.
There are no free Code Signing SSL certificates for you to use to protect your software. The process of getting a certificate code signing in place takes a fair bit of effort from Certificate Authorities, and you should be suspicious of anyone offering this manner of security for free.
